Bruxism and effects on oral health in children

Bruxism, defined as repetitive jaw-muscle activity with tooth grinding and clenching, can lead to abnormal tooth wear, peridodontal tissue, temporomandibular joints and muscle damage. Although the etiology is unknown, it is predicted to be multifactorial. Reported prevalence in children ranges from % 4 to % 96. Bruxism is more common in young people and children than adults, and early diagnose is important for disease control. The aim of this review is to evaluate the frequency of bruxism in children, the effects on oral health and current approaches to treatment
