The study of examples of civil architecture in Anatolian cities is notonly indispensable to define the way of life of Ottoman period people butit is also an important subject matter to see their physical contribution tothe traditional street structure. Traditional streets, which serve as a bridgebetween the public sphere and the private property, change with the replacement of traditional civil architecture with flats in apartment buildings.Streets most affected from this change are dead-ends, where thefeeling of privacy is more apparent. And also in shady streets of Antepand other Southeastern Anatolian cities where passages named kabaltı (abbara) and bay windowed houses are mainly seen. Traditional streets arereplaced with wider streets where modern vehicles can easily move. Thisis a research of the streets of Antep Merkez District Yaprak Quarter whichface the danger of losing their authenticity and the contribution of civilarchitecture to the structure of these streets.
