In this article the history of the tapestry art is considered in view of finds of archeological excavations in Pazyryk and in Egypt and it is marked that techniques used at manufacture of tapestry long before were known to Turk and Egyptians and were used by them. It traced the way of development of the tapestry art in XX century. In this article are marked features of the modem tapestry art and are considered a creation of the Azerbaijan tapestry art, its sources and the way of development. Taking into account the features revealed at development of the Azerbaijan tapestry art, its history is shared on stages and are marked the prominent features of each stage.
