CHANGES LAND USE AND BIODIVERSITY: MECHANISMS OF MANAGEMENT AND ADAPTATION

The conservation of biodiversity and natural-anthropogenic ecosystems require the elimination of the causes of the loss of biodiversity. The main direct drivers of biodiversity loss today are habitat conversion, over-exploitation of resources, environmental pollution and climate change. They, in turn, are the result of manifestation of the demographic, economic, technological, social, political and cultural changes. Climate change is becoming an increasingly important driver of biodiversity loss and land degradation. The most effective way to combat climate change is rapid and substantial reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by shifting the economy to a low-carbon, and evaluation of neutral balance land degradation. In this regard, land degradation processes pose a significant threat, above all, to the effective development of agriculture. Such processes, moving from the category of environmental to the category of threats to the sustainable development of countries, seem to be the most important, especially in the strategic plan, and require the development of a Concept for the Development of Optimal Land Use.
