Bu araştırmanın amacı, ilköğretim okullarının dört ve beşinci sınıflarında Sosyal Bilgiler dersini veren sınıf öğretmenlerinin, bu derse karşı tutumlarının derecesini saptamaktır. Bu amaçla, 1997-1998 öğretim yılında, İstanbul’un merkeze yakın ilçelerinde görev yapan 96’sı bay, 118’i bayan 214 sınıf öğretmenine araştırmacılar tarafından geliştirilen anket ile tutum ölçeği uygulanmıştır. Elde edilen verilerin frekans ve yüzde değerleri hesaplanmış, cinsiyet değişkenine göre “t” testi, meslekî kıdem, mezun olunan okul ve sınıf mevcudu değişkenlerine göre tek yönlü varyans analizi yapılmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda, öğretmenlerin Sosyal Bilgiler dersine karşı “bazen” olumlu tutum gösterdikleri saptanmıştır. Bu tutumun, cinsiyet, meslekî kıdem, mezun olunan okul ve sınıftaki öğrenci sayısına göre değişmediği görülmüştür.

The purpose of this study is to find out the attitudes of elementary school 4th and 5th grades teachers towards social studies. A questionnaire and an attitude scale both developed by the researchers were applied to 214 elementary school teachers. 118 of 214 teachers were females. Frequency and percentage, t-test and one way ANOVA techniques were used to analyze the data. The results have shown that the elementary school teachers “sometimes” had positive attitudes towards the social studies. The gender, school of graduation, seniority at work and the number of students at classes had no significant effect on the level and direction of attitude.
