Determination of the Optimal Number of Steps for the Solution of Differential Equations of the Rotary Type Regenerators
Rotary type regenerators are used for energy recovery from waste heat, especially in low temperature applications such as air conditioning systems. The heat recovery rate of the regenerator depends on the regenerator efficiency. Regenerator efficiency can be calculated after determining the temperature distribution in the regenerator. One of the solutions of the mathematical models developed to calculate the efficiency of rotary type regenerators is the finite difference method. In this study, in order to ensure the accuracy of the results to be obtained from the solution of differential equations, which are developed for the analysis of rotary type regenerators and not possible to solve analytically, the governing equations are solved under special conditions by using different number of steps with the finite difference method. Analytical solution of differential equations of the regenerators is possible under the special conditions, and therefore numerical and analytical results can be compared. In this study, the numerical results obtained by using different number of steps are compared with the analytical results and it is tried to determine the most suitable number of steps to be used in the solution of differential equations of regenerators.
