AB-Türkiye İlişkilerinde Din Faktörü: Tehdit mi Yoksa Fırsat mı?

Her ne kadar Türkiye ile Avrupa ülkeleri arasındaki ilişkiler on dokuzuncu asrın ortalarına kadar gitse de, Türkiye’nin 1959 yılında Avrupa Birliğine başvurusuyla, AB-Türkiye ilişkileri yeni bir boyut kazanmıştır. Bazı Avrupa ülkeleri AB’nin Hıristiyan bir geleneğe ve kültüre sahip olduğunu, bu yüzden de Türkiye’nin AB üyesi olarak kabul edilmemesi gerektiğini ileri sürerken, diğer bazı AB ülkeleri de AB’nin çok uluslu, çok dinli ve çok kültürlü bir toplum olmasından dolayı, Türkiye’nin de Birliğe üye olması gerektiğini savunmaktadırlar. Bu makale, bu süreçteki “din faktörünü” ele almakta ve dinin AB ülkeleri için bir tehdit unsuru olmayıp, aksine bir şans olduğunu ileri sürmektedir.

Religion Factor in the Relationship Between EU and Turkey: is it a Threat or a Chance?

Although the relationship between Turkey and the European Countries goes back to the midst of Nineteen Centuries, with the application of Turkey to the European Union in 1959, it has gained a new dimension. While some European countries have argued that EU has a Christian tradition and cultural background, therefore, Turkey should not be accepted as a member of the EU, others have discussed that since Europe is multi-national, multi-religious and multi-cultural society, it has to include Turkey to the Union. This article analyses the “religion factor” in this process, and concludes that religion factor is not a threat but a chance for the EU countries.
