The effects of individualism and time-urgency diversity on intra-group conflict

Abstract Group diversity, defined as the distribution of differences among the members of a unit with respect to a common attribute, is an important determinant of group processes and effectiveness. The present study examined the effects of diversity with respect to time urgency personality trait and individualism on emotional and task conflict as well as the moderating role of group tenure on this relationship. Hypotheses based upon the similarity-attraction paradigm (Byrne, 1971) were tested employing survey research design. Results from 49 teams depicted that individualism diversity is a trigger of emotional conflict and that the group tenure weakened this link.
