THE EXPERIENCES OF WOMEN LIVING IN A LOW SOCIOECONOMIC LEVEL REGARDING FOOD INSECURITY

The aim of this study is to examine the experiences of women living in a low socioeconomic level regarding food insecurity. The research was designed in phenomenological qualitative type. The population of the research consists of women living in a region with a low socioeconomic level. The sample of the study consisted of 11 women who met the inclusion criteria and were determined by the snowball sampling method. The data was collected between 12 September and 28 December 2021, with an introductory information form and a semi-structured interview form. The data were analyzed by content analysis. Two main themes as Poverty and Struggle, and six sub-themes as Insufficient Food, Neediness, Desperation; Allocation and Unselfishness, Distract the Child, and Relative Support were formed. As a result of the study; women explained food insecurity with poverty, neediness and helplessness. Also it was determined that they sought ways to struggle with food insecurity. In line with these results; it is recommended to plan qualitative or quantitative studies that measure and evaluate the consequences of food insecurity in similar sample groups.
