TORUS PALATINUS BİR CİNSİYET ÖZELLİĞİ MİDİR?

Öz Bu çalışmada Erken Bronz çağından 20. yüzyılın ilk çeyreğine kadar geniş bir zaman diliminde yaşamış, 7 eski Anadolu topluluğuna ait 333 kafatasında bazı araştırmacılar tarafından bir cinsiyet özelliği olarak değerlendirilen, torus palatinus varyasyonunun sıklığı ve bu özelliğin boyutunun cinsiyete göre değişimi incelenmiştir. Bu değişimi belirlemek için X2 analizi kullanılmıştır. Topluluklar birlikte değerlendirildiğinde, torus palatinus frekansında cinsiyet farkı gözlenmezken, topluluklar ayrı ayrı değerlendirildiğinde, Anadolu topluluklarının çoğunluğunda erkeklerin torus palatinus frekansı kadınlardan daha yüksek bulunmuştur. Boyut açısından hafif dereceli torus her iki cinsiyette de benzer frekanslar gösterirken, belirgin ve ileri dereceli torusların kadınlarda daha yüksek frekanslara sahip olduğu belirlenmiştir; ancak ne torus palatinus sıklığında ne de boyutunda istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir cinsiyet farklılığı bulunmuştur. Dolayısıyla iskeletler üzerinde çalışıldığında, bir cinsiyet özelliği göstermeyen torus palatinusun her iki cinsiyete ilişkin verilerinin, biyolojik uzaklık çalışmalarında birleştirilebileceği düşünülmektedir.
