DIŞARI ÇIKMAK: ÖZELDEN KAMUSALA FEMİNİST BİR SAHA HİKÂYESİ

Bu makalenin ana konusu, kadınların kentsel kamusal alanlardaki gündelik hayatlarına odaklanarak, mekân ve toplumsal cinsiyet arasındaki ilişkilerin nasıl şekillendiği üzerine metodolojik bir tartışma yürütmektir. Toplumsal cinsiyet ilişkileri, mekânsal algılar ve deneyimlerle yakından ilişkilidir. Bu makalede amaçlanan, kent kamusal mekânlarının kadınlar tarafından nasıl algılanıp deneyimlendiği üzerine bir araştırmanın ne tür koşullara ve imkânlara dayandığını ortaya çıkarmaktır. Böylece, toplumsal cinsiyet kavramının yanı sıra kamusal mekânı, araştırmanın odağına yerleştirmenin toplumsal ilişkileri anlamada bize sağlayacağı olanaklar tartışmaya açılmış olacaktır. Bu amaçla, Türkiye'nin başkenti Ankara örneğinde, kadınların kent kamusal mekânlarına erişimlerini ve bu mekânları kullanımlarını incelemek üzere yürütülen saha araştırmasında yararlanılan yöntemler ve uygulamalar ele alınmıştır. Makale kapsamında, araştırmacının saha çalışmasındaki deneyimlerine dayanarak, kamusal mekânın kadınların deneyimi aracılığıyla nasıl çalışılabileceği sorusuna cevap verilmeye çalışılacaktır. Çalışmanın açığa çıkarmak istediği temel mesele, kamusal mekân üzerine inceleme yapmanın kendine özgü ne tür özelliklere sahip olduğu ve araştırma öznesi kadın olduğunda yöntemsel açıdan ne gibi özgüllüklerin ortaya çıktığıdır.

GOING OUT: A FEMINIST FIELD STORY FROM PRIVATE TO PUBLIC

The central concern of this study is to conduct a methodological discussion on the interrelationship between space and gender, focusing on everyday lives of women in the urban public space. Gender relations are closely connected to spatial perceptions and experiences. This article aims to reveal the conditions and possibilities of researching on how women perceive and experience urban public spaces. In this way, it will open up a discussion on the potentialities of taking the concepts of gender and space as the central foci of research for understanding social relations. By this purpose, through the example of Turkey's capital city of Ankara, it deals with the methods and practices applied in the field research, which has been conducted to analyse women's access to the urban public spaces and their use of these spaces. Within the scope of the article, based on the field experiences of the researcher, it is attempted to answer the question of how public space can be examined through women's experiences. The major concern to be explored is the distinctive features of examining public space and the sorts of specificalities that emerge methologically, when the particular focus is on women as the research subject.
