Tarihi değiştiren büyük şahsiyetlerin başında gelen Hz. Peygamber’in, hayatını konu edinen siyer ve meğazî ilmi, hicrî birinci yüzyılın ortalarından itibaren, birlikte yürüdüğü hadis ilminden ayrılarak, kendine has bir güzergâhta seyretmeye başladığı bilinmektedir. Bu seyir esnasında zaman zaman hadis ilminin tenkitçi yapısından uzaklaşan siyer ve meğazi’ye apokrif malzemenin karıştığı gözlenmektedir. Bunda tarihe yön veren büyük şahsiyetlerin hayatı etrafında, tarihi gerçekleri yansıtan haberlerle birlikte menkıbevî ve mitolojik anlatımların oluştuğu gerçeği etkili olmuştur. Yarınlarımızı kurarken en çok ihtiyaç duyduğumuz malzemenin başında gelen Hz. Peygamberin hayatının, söz konusu unsurlardan arındırılması gerektiği izahtan vareste bir konudur.

It is known that the scholarly branch of siyar and maghazi which are concerned with the life of the Prophet Muhammad, who has been the most important of those personalities who changed the history, was separated from hadith and followed its own way. It is also noticeable that some apocryphal material has been involved in siyar and maghazi since they have gone away from the critical methodology of hadith. Together with the narrations of historical events the mythological stories as well as hearsays concerning the life of great personalities who have been decisive in historical process have been quite effective in this. It is certain that we need the life of the Prophet to found a healthy future. It is therefore quite important to clarify the narrations of the life of the Prophet from the apocryphal materials.
