Bu makalede ünlü Türk hekimi ve dermatoloji uzmanı Prof. Dr. Hulusi Behçet’in 15 Şubat 1935 tarihinde İstanbul radyosunda vermiş olduğu “Frengi niçin ayıp görülür? Frengiyi, neden gizli tutmak adet olmuştur? Tabiatta, ayıp denen hastalık var mıdır?” konulu konferansın tam metnini sunacağız. Bu metin için başvurulan kaynak İstanbul Deri ve Zührevi Hastalıklar Kurumu Sosyal Çalışmaları tarafından bastırılmış kitapçıktır. Bu kitapçık halen Ege Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Tıp Tarihi ve Etik Anabilim Dalı arşivinde bulunmaktadır. Pek fazla bilinmeyen ve tarihsel bir önemi olduğunu düşündüğümüz bu konuşmada Prof. Dr. Hulusi Behçet, insanlık için tehlikeli bir hastalık olan frengiye değinmiştir. Makalede yer alan tam metnin orijinali üzerinde değişiklik yapılmamış, sadece bugünün Türkçesi ile uyumlu olmayan kelimelerin sadeleştirilmesine çalışılmıştır

Abstract This paper will present full text of speech given by famous Turkish doctor and dermatological expert Prof. Dr. Hulusi Behçet on 15th of February in 1935 at Istanbul radio. This conference centers on “Why syphilis is considered shameful? Why had it become a tradition to keep syphilis as a secret? Is there any disease in nature which can be considered as shameful?”. The source which we consulted for this text is the booklet published by Istanbul Institution of Dermatological and Venereal Diseases Social Works. This booklet is still in Ege University Faculty of Medicine Department of Medical History and Ethics archive. In this speech, which is not widely known and we consider as historically important, Prof. Dr. Hulusi Behçet mentioned about syphilis which is a dangerous disease for human kind. No alteration was made on the original of full text which paper presents, however, some words that do not comply with current Turkish were tried to be simplified.
