During recent years there has been a trend to conceive “herbalism” as an alternative medicine treatment. But “herbalism” is the basis of medical pharmacology and pharmacognosy. After the 1950s, the development of the pharmaceutical industry, caused a loss of prestige in the field of herbal pharmaceutical agents. We must defend the value of herbalism, not only for historical purposes, but also with the aim of utilizing the scientific research and new data in this field of medical sciences.
