RENAL COMPUTED TOMOGRAPHY ANGIOGRAPHY PROTOCOL AND RADIATION DOSE IN KIDNEY TRANSPLANT DONORS

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study is to determine the radiation dose parameters of renal computed tomography angiography (RCTA) scans in kidney transplant donors.MATERIAL AND METHODS: RCTA scans obtained between July 2017 and December 2019 in a tertiary reference hospital were included in this study whose ethics committee approval was obtained retrospectively. CT radiation dose parameters were obtained from the picture archiving and communication system. Volume CT dose index (CTDIvol) and dose length product (DLP) values were recorded from the patient dose reports. Effective dose (ED) and scan length (SL) were calculated.RESULTS: Of the 142 patients who underwent RCTA, 54 % (n = 76) were men and 46 % (n = 66) were women. The mean age of the patients was 43.8 ± 12.5. The second quarter (median) of total DLP and ED values of RCTA scans were 835 mGy.cm and 12.5 mSv, respectively. The mean SL value of unenhanced, arterial, venous and late phase series were 31.4 ± 3, 21.9 ± 3, 32.1 ± 4.5 and 22.7 ± 4.7 cm, respectively.CONCLUSIONS: In this study, radiation dose parameters of RCTA scans were lower than the relevant literature.
