Kurban, bir ibadet olarak tüm dinlerde bulunmaktadır. Ancak tarihsel süreç içerisinde bu ibadetin şekil ve mahiyetinde önemli değişiklikler meydana gelmiştir. İslâm hâricindeki tüm dinlerde, kanlı kurban uygulamasına son verilmiş, ibadet form değiştirerek başka ritüellerle ikame edilmeye çalışılmıştır. İslâm’daki kurban ibadetinin taabbüdi yönünün böyle bir değişikliğin meydana gelmesini engellediği söylenebilir. Ferdî ve içtimaî hayat için bu kadar elzem bir ibadetin gerek ilmî ve gerekse de uygulama açısından tüm yönlerini ele almak amacıyla Kocaeli Üniversitesi İlahiyat Fakültesi tarafından “kurban” temalı sempozyum tertip edilmiştir. Sempozyumda sadece akademik camiadan ilim adamlarının değil, aynı zamanda vekaletle kurban organizasyonu yapan STK’ları temsil eden kişilerin tebliğleri de yer almıştır. Böylelikle sempozyumda İslâm’daki kurban ibadetinin gerek uygulama gerekse de fıkhi, kültürel, pedegojik ve iktisadi yönü ortaya konulmuştur.

Sacrifice is found in all religions as a form of worship. However, in the historical process, important changes have occurred in the form and nature of this worship. In all religions except Islam, the practice of blood sacrifice was abolished, and worship was tried to be replaced by other rituals by changing its form. It can be said that the taboo aspect of sacrifice worship in Islam prevented such a change from occurring. A sacrificial symposium was organized by Kocaeli University Faculty of Theology in order to deal with all aspects of such an essential worship for individual and social life, both scientifically and in terms of practice. Papers of not only scholars from the academic community, but also people representing NGOs that organize victims by proxy were also included in the symposium. Thus, in the symposium, both the practice and the jurisprudence, cultural, pedagogical and economic aspects of the sacrificial worship in Islam were revealed.
