The protestant ethic in the development of the rational economic action

The rise of calvinism and of capitalism especially in Britain and Netherland should prove of considerable interest the works of Max Weber. Becausethese countriese were the most attention in where modern capitalism developed on a large scale.M.Weber asserted that the protestant doctrine of thecalling bridged the gulf between puritan consciousness of the dangers of riches, and money making ought to be carried on for the glory of God. Becausecalling was a sign of grace and a token of Godly election. Such an idea sanctified worldly success and combined with advices that it was a religious duty to work hard in one’s calling. Calling created a new ethic which made hard work a moral duty and worldly success including money making a sign of grace.
