Turkish Folk Songs can be classified according to their stories, regions, scales andrhythms. Besides, anonymous Turkish Folk Songs of which the composers areunknown and the other Turkish Folk Songs of which the composers are known differfrom each other in terms of this issue. Many unrecorded Turkish Folk Songs wereforgotten. As a result, the community could not reach and be aware of those songsnow. Thats why Turkish Folk Songs should be considered as cultural heritage.Maintaining them by recordings is important for the living culture. Additionally, thecomposers of these songs will not be forgotten thanks to the recordings and will betransmitted to the next generations.In this study, Şahin Akkaya and his Giresun themed Turkish Folk Songs are studied.His compositions are written as music notes for the contribution to Giresun FolkSongs literature. Listeners can notice the similarities between the anonimous GiresunFolk Songs and Şahin Akkaya’s music in terms of maqam and rhythm as soon as theyhear it. Therefore, common characteristics of Şahin Akkaya’s songs and anonymousGiresun folk songs are compared in terms of maqam and rtythm in the current study.
