THE CONVERSION PROCESS OF DCS TO PLC-SCADA SYSTEM IN A MEDIUM SIZE PLANT

The process conducted at Eti Gurnus has complex process control systemand it is working under automation with many instruments. The observation ofanalog and digital input/output assigned in all units of the Eti Gumus plant and theirPID control were managed by Distributed Control System (DCS). It was required toupdate and/or design new system in order to support new units that will be added inthe future and solve the problems accruing in the software hardware of the DCS. Inaddition, proposed control system to Eti Gurnus should not be expensive and itshould be compatible with other systems.Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition(SCADA) were preferred and used instead of DCS in the system. Ethernet andModbus + protocol were used to communicate using all variety of the advancedtechnology to obtain user-friendly system.In this paper. PLC and SCADA were compared with DCS. The design criteria ofcontrol system setup. application of the methods and alternative solution wereexplained in detail.
