Storage of Buck Semen and Artificial Insemination

Artificial insemination (AI) involves placement of semen from a male in to the reproductive tract of a female by mechanical means rather than by natural mating. AI offers goat breeders the potential for use of genetically superior sires. The mating of outstanding sires and dams, even kilometers apart, may be effectively perormed by AI using frozen semen. AI have the potential to create desirable new lines, reduce inbreeding, control of venerally transmitted diseases, maximal use of outstanding sires, elimination of bucks on the farm and decresad expenses about buck. Sperm stored short term at 5o C and long term at -196o C are used for AI. In this review, storage of buck semen and pregnancy rates obtained artificial insemination with stored semen have been mentioned.
