Investigation of NO Levels in Depressed and Healthy Mothers, A Fetal Cord Study During the Delivery
Gebelik sırasında geçirilen depresyon anneye emosyonel ve psikolojik yük oluşturmasının yanında fetal prognozla da ilişkili olabilmektedir. Umbilikal kord anneden oksijenin ve besinlerin fetal dolaşıma taşınmasında ayrıca fetal atıkların rol almaktadır. NO vazodilatasyon, düz kas relaksasyonu, immunolojik modulasyon, nörotransmisyon ve platelet agregasyonunun inhibisyonu gibi birçok fizyolojik işleve sahiptir. Bu çalışmamızda fetal kordon kanında (FKK) NO düzeylerini incelemeyi amaçladık. Plasenta gebelik sırasında NO seviyelerinin düzenlenmesinde rol oynayabilir
Depresyonu olan ve olmayan gebelerde umbilikal kordon kanında NO düzeyleri
Depression in pregnancy imposes an emotional burdento mothers’ life; on the other hand, an association existsbetween negative fetal and birth outcomes and pregnancydepression. The umbilical cord is vital for the fetus, whichhas critical roles in transportation of nutrients and oxygenbetween fetal and maternal circulation. NO is an importantmolecule involved in many physiological functions likevasodilatation, smooth muscle relaxation, immunemodulation, neurotransmission, and platelet aggregationinhibition. In this study, we aimed to investigate NO levelsin fetal cord blood (FCB) of depressed mothers and healthycontrols. An obstetrician collected blood samples during thecaesarean section. Study participants were 40 depressedmothers and 44 healthy controls. We did not find any difference between groups regardingNO levels. However, birth weight of babies was significantlylower in depression group.Placenta could have a regulatory role in NO levels duringpregnancy
