Bir proje ile ilgili anlaşma yapılırken projenin belirli bir sürede tamamlanması ve bu sürenin aşımı durumunda gecikme süresine bağlı olarak bir ceza ödenmesi koşul olarak konabilir. Belirlenen süre projenin normal tamamlanma süresinin altında ise süre koşuluna uymak için bazı faaliyetleri daha kısa zamanda tamamlamak ve dolayısıyla bazı ek maliyetlere katlanmak gerekebilir. Böyle bir proje için yapılacak süre-maliyet analizinde en önemli nokta “projeyi normalden kısa sürede bitirmek için gerekli ek maliyetler ve ceza ödemeleri toplamını enküçükleyen proje süresi ve faaliyet planı”dır. Bu çalışmada, proje kısaltma maliyetleri ve ceza ödemeleri zamana bağlı bir fonksiyonla ifade edilerek optimal proje süresi analitik olarak bulunmuştur.

When making a contract about a project, there can be a condition of finishing the project in a certain time and if this time is passed, paying a penalty. If the duration agreed on is shorter than the normal finishing duration, in order to meet the time condition, some activities may have to be finished in a shorter time; hence some extra costs may have to be paid. The most important point when making a time-cost analysis for such a project is “the optimal project duration and activity plan that makes the extra costs to finish the project before the normal time and the penalty payments minimum”. In this study, by expressing these extra costs and penalty payments with respect to time, optimal project duration is determined analytically.
