Ekonomi hakkında sektörel düzeyde ayrıntılı veri sağlayan ve sektörlerin birbirleriyle olan bağımlılıklarını ortaya koyan girdi-çıktı modelinin kullanımının sınırlamaları bulunmaktadır. Uygun bir yöntemle ekonomi hakkında bilgi sağlamak amacıyla oluşturulan kurallar dizisini kapsayan 1993 Ulusal Hesaplar Sisteminin girdi-çıktı çatısının bir uzantısı olarak “uydu” terimi önerilmektedir. Uydu hesapları aracılığı ile gerektiğinde mevcut hesaplara bilgi eklenebilmektedir. Bu teorik çerçevede turizm sektörünün ekonomiye katkısını ölçebilmek için, turizm uydu hesap sistemine olan gereksinim, söz konusu hesapların amacı, özellikleri, tanım, sınıflandırma önerileri, uluslararası kuruluşların yaklaşım farklılıkları üzerinde durulmuştur.

There are some limitations in the use of input-output model which gives detailed information at the sectoral level and puts forth the interdependencies of the sectors of the economy. The 1993 National Accounts System, consisted of a series of rules which is formed with the purpose of providing data about the economy by applying a proper method, puts forward a term called “satellite” as an extension of its input-output framework. Extra data can be added to the available accounts through satellite accounts. In measuring the contribution of the tourism sector to the economy in this theoretical framework, the need for the tourism satellite account system, the aim of these accounts, definition, proposals for the classification, and the differences between the approaches by international institutions are presented.
