Factors Affecting Household Expenditures: A Microeconometric Study on Turkey

Household expenditures, which are an important component of public policies, are an indicator of individual and therefore social welfare. Knowing the factors affecting household consumption expenditures will be beneficial in many ways, especially in public policies. The aim of working with this source of motivation is to examine the determinants of household consumption expenditures from a microeconometric perspective. For this purpose, the data set of the study was obtained through the Household Budget Survey of the Turkish Statistical Institute, and quantile regression was used for the analysis of the data set, which allows obtaining information at many points of the distribution of the dependent variable. As a result of the study, it has been determined that gender, age, marital status, educational status, household size, economic indicators, especially income, and social indicators are effective on consumption expenditures.
