ADA, IFN-GAMMA AND IL-18 LEVELS IN PLEURAL FLUID AND SERUM FOR THE DIAGNOSIS OF TUBERCULOUS PLEURITIS

The differential diagnosis of exudative pleural effusions are difficult. The aim of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic value of ADA, IFN-gamma and IL-18 levels in both pleural fluids and sera of patients with pleural effusions. Between January 2005 and April 2006, 45 patients with TB pleuritis and 45 patients with malignant pleural efusion were enrolled in this study. ADA, IFN-gamma and IL-18 and other biochemical parameters were examined in pleural fluid and sera of the patients with ELISA and calorymetric methods. The results were evaluated with SPSS program using Kolmogorov Smirnov test, student t test, Mann Whitney U test and qui square test. ADA, IFN-gamma and IL-18 levels were significantly high in pleural fluid compared with sera of tuberculous pleuritis patients (p
