The Relationship Between Emotional Intelligence and Democratic Perceptions and Attitudes of Teacher Candidates

In this study, it was aimed to evaluate the relationship between pre-service teachers' democratic perceptions and attitudes and emotional intelligence levels according to gender, type of school and parents' educational status and to investigate the relationship between pre-service teachers' democratic perceptions and attitudes and emotional intelligence. In the descriptive study, relational screening model was used. The study group consisted of 314 pre-service teachers. The data of the study were collected“Democratic Perception and Attitude Scale” developed by Tutkun and Genç (2013) and “Revised Schutte EmotionalIntelligence Scale” which was adapted to Turkish by Tatar, Tok and Saltukoğlu(2011). In addition to descriptive statistics such as arithmetic mean and standard deviation, Mann Whitney U test, Kruskall Wallis H test and correlation analysis were used. As a result of the research, it was found that there was a positive relationship between emotional intelligence and democratic perceptions and attitudes. In addition, it was determined that the emotional intelligence scores of the prospective teachers differed according to the department and gender, and the democratic perception and attitudes differed significantly according to the graduated high school type. The findings of the research are discussed in the light of the literature.
