EVALUATION OF MONOLEXIS FUSCICORNIS (HYMENOPTERA) AS PARASITOID OF LYCTUS BRUNNEUS (COLEOPTERA) IN PARQUETS
Lyctus brunneus is a beetle that belonging to Lyctidae family of the superfamily Bostrichidae. It damages sapwoods of the industrial woods used in making parquet such as oak, walnut, cinnamon, elm, African mahogany. Female insects put their eggs to the vessels of broad leaved trees and the larvae that come out from the eggs damage to wood. Various chemical methods such as impregnation and fumigation are applied to this insect for struggling. However, the chemical struggle is not suitable for many researchers. In this study, Monolexis fuscicornis (Hymenoptera) has been studied which is the natural parasitoid of the Lyctus brunneus beetle. Lyctus brunneus which has been extensively damaged in walnut wood in a timber factory operating in the Duzce province has been transferred to the laboratories along with timber and larvae. In July - August, when Lyctus brunneus and parasitoid adult exits were most intense, 62.21% of the parasitism rate was detected. With this parasitism rate, Monolexis fuscicornis has been shown to have a significant predominant effect. As a result, Monolexis fuscicornis is the species that should be considered in the biological control of Lyctus brunneus damages. However, as the exit hole of the parasitoid does not reduce a technical damage, the fight should be carried out in harmony with other integrated pest management techniques.
