Bugün kalkınma ekonomisi iktisadın en önemli konularından birini oluşturmaktadır. Kalkınma halkın bütünüyle refahını sağlamak ve ülkenin savunma ihtiyaçlarını gidermek amacıyla iktisadi bakımdan güçlenmesi şeklinde ifade edilir. Müslüman bir toplumda bilgi kalkınmaya içerik ve istikamet vermek bakımından etki eder. Dinin ve bilginin şekillendirdiği toplumda hem maddi hem de manevi yönüyle bir bütün olarak gerçekleşebilir. Geçmişte toplumda servetin kaynağı kas gücüydü, fakat günümüzde bu tamamen bilgi olarak kendini göstermektedir. Tarihi süreçte de kurulan medeniyette asıl mayanın Kur’an’ın “ilmi zihniyeti” olduğu aşikârdır. Bu zihniyet tarihi süreçte hep bilgiyi ve ahlâkı öncelememiz gerektiğini bize anlatır. Bilgiyi “ilk öncelik” haline getirenlerin çağlarını okuma imkânına kavuşacağı muhakkaktır. Bilginin de ancak “özgür” bir ortamda üretilebileceği izahtan varestedir. Özgür ortamda üretilen bilgi çalışma ahlâkını motive edecek, bunun neticesinde insanların “ibadet neşvesi” içinde çalışmaları gerçekleşecektir.
