Ahmed b. Hanbel, sadece hadis ilminde değil, İslam kültür tarihinde önemli yere sahip bir şahsiyettir. Abbasi Hilafeti döneminde vuku bulan Mihne olayı Ahmed b. Hanbel’in kişiliği ve ilmi şahsiyeti üzerinde derin izler bırakmıştır. Mihne sürecinin hem Ahmed b. Hanbel’e hem de eserine karizma kattığını söylemek mümkündür. Onun yaşadığı sıkıntılar, eserine son şeklini verememesine neden olmuş ve oğlu Abdullah ve onun öğrencisi el-Katı’i bu esere bazı tasarruflarda bulunmuştur. Ancak bu durum çeşitli tartışmalara yol açmıştır.

Ahmed b. Hanbel is a personality having a significant place not only in the knowledge of hadith but also in the History of Islam Culture. The Mihna Event that had happened in the Era of the Abbasid Caliphate engraved the personality and the scientific personality of Ahmed b. Hanbel. It is possible to say that the Mihna Process contributed charisma both to Ahmed b. Hanbel and to his work. The troubles he had experienced caused that he could not give a final shape to his work and his son Abdullah and his student el-Kati’i made some additions and amendments in that work. However, that event caused various discussions.
