Bu çalşmanyn amacş 4. ve 5. sınıfta başlayan yabancy dil öğretimi hakkında veriler toplayarak, yabancı dil dersinin niteliği ve sorunlarını belirlemektir. Bu amaçla 421 öğrenciye ve 10 erkek ile 7 bayandan oluşan 17 öğretmene anket uygulanmıştır. Betimsel bir yaklaşım sergileyen bu çalışmadan elde edilen bulgular doğrultusunda çözüm önerileri sunarak, yabancı dil öğretiminin kalitesini artyrmak için katkı sağlamaya çalışılmıştır. Araştırmada birinci kademe yabancı dil derslerinin eylem, oyun ve etkileşim odakly işlenmediği, şarkı öğretilmediği ve öykü okutulmadığı sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.

The aim of this study is to determine the quality and problems in early foreign language teaching at the beginning of 4th and 5th grade. For this purpose the data were collected by means of questionnaires from 10 male and 7 female of 17 ELT teachers and 421 students. The findings, which are descriptive, will be used to provide solutions to contribute the quality of foreign language teaching. In the result of the research, it was found that in the foreign language instructions in elementary classes, action, play and interaction were not used; short stories and songs were not taught.
