THE EVALUATION OF HEDONIC HUNGER STATUS IN STUDENTS STUDYING NUTRITION and DIETETICS: THE CASE OF ARTVİN ÇORUH UNIVERSITY

Hedonic hunger is defined as a continuous increase in appetite, without the need for energy, especially in association with the desire to eat sugary, fatty foods and the expectation of enjoying the food and feeling happiness. This study aims to evaluate the hedonic hunger levels of students studying nutrition and dietetics. The study was conducted with a total of 145 students, 114 female and 31 male students, between the ages of 18-25. In the study, the students' sociodemographic characteristics were questioned with some anthropometric measurements, the Power of Food Scale (PFS), and the Food Cravings Questionnaire (FCQ). The mean PFS score was 3.03, and the presence of hedonic hunger related to power of food was identified. The mean FCQ score was found to be 132.95. Various causes such as obesity, a history of dieting, alcohol consumption, and chronic diseases may influence the formation of hedonic hunger. The timely determination of hedonic hunger and establishment of healthy eating habits may reduce individuals' exposure to hedonic hunger.
