Linear effects and efficiency of fiscal policy: Notes on theoretical and empirical literature

This paper reviews the theoretical and empirical literature on the linear effects of fiscal policy. For this purpose at first the linear effects of fiscal policy are discussed in the light of five major macroeconomics schools. Then the VAR studies are summarized which extensively assume a linear causality between policy shocks and various macroeconomic variables. Finally, the conflicting effectiveness findings of the models are evaluated under the strong agreement of linearity.
