Invasive Vincetoxicum Species and Interaction of Vincetoxicum Genus With Insects

Vincetoxicum genus which is capable of adapting to a wide variety of habitats and tolerant to a wide range of moisture and light contains about 100 species. Among these species, highly diffusive species as being invasive species in their habitats threaten floral and faunal biodiversity. The species of this genus is a host plant for some specialized insect species due to their secondary metabolites, while they cause some adverse effects such as antifeedant, larval mortality, growth inhibition, oviposition deterrence and toxicity on some insects. While the obtained data show that biological control can be achieved by using insects specially adapted for combating with invasive Vincetoxicum species, it has been shown that extracts, compounds and various plant products of these species can be used as botanical pesticides in combating insects which are harmful to economically important agricultural products. Thus, it will be possible to reach a wide range of effective, target specific, biodegradable, environmentally friendly products that will eliminate the side effects of chemical pesticides. In this study, the infestation ability of the genus Vincetoxicum and its interaction with insects were evaluated from two different perspectives, and the information about the situation in Turkey was compiled.
