İyonya’daki Metropolis Kentinin Sakinleri Tarafından Eyalet Valilerinin ya da Ailelerinin Üyelerinin Onurlandırılması

2022’de Metropolis’te bulunan iki yazıt bu küçük kentin Geç Cumhuriyet ve Erken İmparatorluk dönemlerinde eyalet yöneticileriyle olan ilişkisine dair fikir vermektedir. Mithradates Savaşları sırasında önemli ölçüde tahrip olmasına rağmen (bkz. yazıt 1), kent yeniden refaha kavuşmuş ve yeni yöneticilere zengin vergiler ödemiştir. İlk yazıtta proconsul Gaius Fabius görülebildiği kadarıyla hayır işleriyle tüm eyaleti mutlu etmiştir. İkinci yazıtta ise kent valisinin ailesinin bir üyesi (kızı) kente hayırseverliğini kanıtlamış ve bunun için onurlandırılmıştır.

The Inhabitants of the City Metropolis in Ionia Honor the Governors of the Province or Members of Their Families

Two finds from Metropolis in 2022 offer insights into the relationship of the small city with its provincial rulers from the late Republic and the early Imperial period. Despite considerable destruction during the Mithridatic wars (see inscription 1), the city achieved renewed prosperity and paid rich tribute to the new rulers. In the first inscription, the proconsul Gaius Fabius, as far as can be seen, has made the entire province happy with his charitable deeds. In the second inscription, it is a member of the family (the daughter) of the city governor who proves charitable to the city and is honored for it.
