Experimental investigation on workpiece surface characteristics in electric discharge machining (EDM)
In this study, main machining performance outputs, namely, workpiece removal rate, electrode wear rate, relative wear, crater geometry, workpiece surface roughness, microhardness and microstructure characteristics were experimentally investigated with the varying machining parameters in electric discharge machining (EDM). The machining tests were conducted by using prismatic steel workpieces and cylindrical copper electrodes with kerosene dielectric under different application methods (flushing, suction and static) and varying machining parameters. The experiments have shown that machining parameters and dielectric application methods were effective on main machining performance outputs.
