Araştırmanın amacı, ilköğretim öğrencilerinin bir uzunluk ölçme aracının çalışma biçimini bilme ve kullanma durumları arasında nasıl bir ilişki olduğunu ortaya koymaktır. Araştırmacılar tarafından geliştirilen çalışma envanteri ilköğretim dördüncü ve sekizinci sınıftan toplam 93 öğrenciye uygulanmıştır. Verilerin analizinde her bir soru maddesi için yüzde ve frekans hesaplaması yapılmış, öğrencilerin ölçme aracının çalışma biçimini bilme durumları ile kullanma durumları arasındaki ilişkinin açıklanması için chi-square, yüzde ve frekans hesaplamaları aracılığıyla gruplar arası çapraz karşılaştırma yapılmıştır. Sonuçlar incelendiğinde, dördüncü ve sekizinci sınıf öğrencilerinin büyük bir çoğunluğunun "cetvelin sol ucuyla hizalanmış olarak verilen bir nesnenin" doğru ölçümünü yapabilirken, "cetvelin sol ucuyla hizalanmadan verilen bir nesnenin" doğru ölçümünü yapamadıkları görülmüştür. The aim of the present paper is to reveal whether there is a relation between the knowledge of the primary school students about how it works as a length measurement tool and how they use it. We developed an instrument to collect the data and we conducted this instrument to 46 fourth grade and 47 eight grade students. We used the statistical SPSS 11.01 package program to analyze the collected data, calculate the percentage and the frequency related to each question which is included in the instrument. Additionally, we use chi-square and cross-comparison in order to determine the relation between the knowledge of the primary school students about how work a length measurement tool and how they use and, the comparison of fourth grade student's responses with the eighth grade student's responses each other.
