Transient erythroblastopenia and parvovirus B19 infection in a healthy newborn
A newborn baby with severe anemia and reticulocytopenia in whom par- vovirus B19 antibodies were detected is described. Anemia was treatedwith a single transfusion of red blood cells and it did not recur. She is now15 months old with normal hematologic data. We would like to emphasizevia the present patient that parvovirus B19 infection has to be consideredin newborns presenting with severe anemia especially if reticulocytopeniais also present. The diagnosis is of importance in evaluating the patientand in treatment planning.
