Amaç: Plastik Cerrahi Kliniklerinin çoğunda estetik ve rekonstrüktif girişim yapılan hastalara aynı serviste hizmet verilmektedir. Ülkemizde estetik problemler nedeniyle ameliyat edilen hastalar ile rekonstrüklif sebeplerle ameliyat edilen hasta populasyonları arasında sosyokültürel farklar olduğunu düşünüyoruz. Bu hastaların hizmet beklentilerindeki farklılıklar, sağlık ekibi ve yardımcı sağlık ekibinin hastalara yaklaşımı ve hizmet sunumunu, diğer tıp dallarından farklı bir boyutla değerlendirme ihtiyacı doğurabilir. Kliniğimizde yatarak tedavi gören estetik ve rekonstrüktif hastalar arasındaki önemli farklılıkları ortaya koymak ve bu bilgiler ışığında hastane çalışanlarını bilgilendirerek, hizmet kalitesini arttırmayı amaçladık. Metod: Kliniğimize yatan 100 estetik ve 100 rekonstrüktif hastaya 20 soruluk bir anket uygulandı. Hastaların sosyokültürel profilini, ameliyat kararını ve doktor seçimini etkileyen faktörleri, ameliyat hakkında bilgi edindikleri kaynakları, beklenti ve memnuniyetlerini saptadık. Bulgular: Anket sonucunda elde edilen verilere göre her iki grup arasında sosyokültürel farklar vardı, ancak hizmet beklentisi ve sunulan hizmetten memnuniyet oranlarında önemli fark saptanmadı. Her iki grup hastaları¬nın önemli bir bölümünün ameliyat öncesi hiç araştırına yapmadıkları; doktor seçiminde başka bir doktorun veya hastanın tavsiyesi ile hekimin güleryüzlü oluşunun en önemli faktörler olduğu saptandı. Sonuç: Hasta profilimizi belirlemek ve gerek hekim gerekse yardımcı sağlık personelini hastaların beklentilerine uygun olarak eğitmek hem verdiğimiz hizmetin kalitesini hem de hasta memnuniyetini arttıracaktır.

Purpose: Most plastic surgery clinics in Turkey hospitalize aesthetic pa¬tients with reconstructive patients in the same department, and even in the same room. We think that there are some socio-cultural differences between aesthetic and reconstructive patients in this country. Sociocultural differences between these patients along with their different expectations could necessitate a different behavior pattern among the hospital staff towards the patients when compared with other medical branches. The aim of this study was to determine, if any, the differences between aesthetic and reconstructive patients hospitalized in our department and to improve our service quality according to these findings. Materials and Methods: We used a questionnaire to ask 20 questions to 100 aesthetic and 100 reconstructive patients hospitalized in our department in 2003. We determined patients' socio-cultural profile, their expectations and satisfaction degree, factors affecting their decision to undergo the operation and in selecting their surgeon, and the sources from which they had collected information about their operation. Results: Our results pointed out some socio-cultural differences betwe¬en aesthetic patients and reconstructive patients. However, there was no significant difference between their service expectations and satisfaction degree. A significant number of both groups' patients did not search for any source of information on their operation before surgery. The most important factors affecting surgeon preference were the affability of the surgeon and recommendation by another doctor or a previous patient. Conclusion: Determining the patient profile could help in the training of hospital staff and improve our department's quality.
