Anaesthetic management of a case of idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura for emergency splenectomy
Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP), also known as primary immune or autoimmune thrombocytopenic purpura, is characterized by a decrease in platelet count, prolongation of bleeding time, and diffuse bleeding spots seen on the skin and mucosa. ITP is a common cause of thrombocytopenia and bleeding complications in children and adults. Glucokorticoids, intravenous immunglobulin, plasmapheresis, and splenectomy have been used for the treatment of ITP. In this case report, anaesthetic management for emergency splenectomy in a patient diagnosed with ITP is presented.
