Effect of process parameters on the microstructure and surface roughness of material in teh WEDM process

In this study the microstructure and surface roughness of AISI D5 steel were investigated according to process parameters in the wire electro-discharge machining (WEDM). In the experiments, puls on time, voltage, dielectric fluid circulation pressure and wire feed rate were taken as variables. After cutting operations, the microstructure of the specimens were examined by optical and SEM microscopy and the microhardness and surface roughness were measured. As a result, the properties of the surfaces were observed to be dependent upon the process parameters and it was concluded that in WEDM the process parameters should be selected according to the desired properties of the material.
