The investigation on the levels of vitamins A, E and C and selenium in bee pollens
In this study, the levels of A, E and C vitamins and selenium in bee pollens sold under different names in market have been investigated. The vitamin levels and the amount of selenium were determined by High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) and fluorometry, respectively. According to our results, the levels of A, E and C vitamins and selenium in the bee pollens are in the range of 0.15 ± 0.05 - 0.29 ± 0.08 $mu g.gr^{-1}$, 0.75 + 0.09 - 1.14 ± 0.14 $mu g.gr^{-1}$, 970,0 ± 6.1 - 1393 ± 8.1 $mu g.gr^{-1}$, 110.2 ± 8.53 - 182.0 ± 10.02 $mu g.kg^{-1}$, respectively. Bee pollens are rich, in terms of vitamin C but poor in terms of vitamin A and E. However, the amount of selenium has a significant ratios for nutrition. The levels of the vitamins and selenium has shown significant differences among the samples. It was concluded that these differences might be caused due to the species of plant, the growing media of the plant, the accumulation and the packing of the pollen.
