Biyoaktif camlar yüzey-reaktif materyallerdir. Vücut sıvılarıyla karşılaştığında, cam yüzeyinde karbonize apatit tabakası oluşmakta ve böylece sert dokular ile organik bağlarla bütünleşebilmektedir. Bu derlemenin amacı, 15 yılı aşkındır kemik grefti olarak klinikte başarıyla kullanılmakta olan biyoaktif cam materyalinin, dişhekimliğinde uygulanabileceği diğer alanlara dikkat çekmektir.

BIOACTIVE GLASSES IN DENTISTRY

Bioactive glasses firstly developed by Hench et al. in 1969. The development and success of bioactive glasses is due to their highly biocompatible nature. Bioactive glasses are surface-reactive materials. When it comes in contact with the appropriate fluids, on glass surface forms a carbonated apatite layer. The aim of this review was to draw attention to other application fields of bioactive glass material which is clinically in use for over 15 years as bone graft material.
