Applications of Photobiomodulation Therapy in Oral Medicine—A Review

Applications of photobiomodulation (PBM) in dentistry have been of great interest in the recent times. It can both stimulate and sup press biological effects. The property of PBM contributes to the analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and wound healing effects. Photobiomo dulation therapy (PBMT) has a wide variety of clinical applications that include wound healing, prevention of cellular death, promotion of repair mechanisms, reduction of inflammation, pain relief, etc. Hence, it is being used effectively in the field of oral medicine and has shown promising results in the management of oral mucosal lesions, orofacial pain, and other orofacial ailments without much signifi cant adverse effects. The purpose of this review is to discuss the applications of PBMT in the field of oral medicine.
