MULTIDISCIPLINARY APPROACH IN ORAL REHABILITATION OF A PATIENT WITH HEMISECTION PERFORMED MANDIBULAR MOLAR TOOTH DUE TO ENDODONTIC REASON – A CASE REPORT

Hemisection is the surgical process by which a multi rooted tooth, usually a mandibular molar is converted into a single rooted tooth by the removal of one root and the associated portion of the crown. Generally prosthetic restoration completed after hemisection procedures. Prosthetic restoration may be single crown or bridge abutment. It is possible to utilize a segment of multirooted tooth even though retention of the entire tooth is impossible due to advanced periodontal disease, carious lesion or endodontic failure. For this reason, when an extraction is indicated for a lower molar tooth because of a problem related to one of its roots, hemisection or root amputation may be an alternative therapy. In this case report, hemisection performed on mandibular first molar tooth due to endodontic and periodontal reasons and after ortodontic treatment approach are presented.
