Lektinler ve Viscum album Aglutinin (VAA)' nın antikarsinojen etkileri

Lektinler hücre yüzeyi ve organellerindeki şekerlere spesifik olarak bağlanabilen protein yada glikoprotein yapısındaki maddelerdir. Lektinlerin normal ve kanserli hücre yüzeylerine bağlanma özelliklerini ve antikarsinojen etkilerini araştırmak üzere çeşitli çalışmalar yapılmıştır. Çalışmalar daha çok ökse otundan elde edilen bir lektin olan Viscum album Aglutinin (VAA) üzerinde yoğunlaşmıştır. Bu çalışmaların sonucunda VAA'nın kanserin gelişimini yavaşlattığı belirtilmiştir. Bu derleme, Avrupada ticari preparatları da bulunan VAA'nın anti-karsinojen etkisini ortaya çıkartmak üzere yapılan araşırmalar hakkında bilgi vermeyi amaçlamıştır.

The anti-varcinogen activities of lectins and Viscum album Agglutinin (VAA)

Lectins are protein or glycoprotein compounds that bind sugar on cell surfaces. Due to this characteristic of lectins, there have been numerous studies searching the binding patern of normal and cancer cell surfaces and its anti-tumor activity. Most of studies have focused on Viscum album Aglutinin (VAA) and its anti-carcinogen activity. As a results of these studies, it was reported that VAA curbs the improving of cancer. The aim of the review is to give some information about the studies on the anti-carcinogen activity of VAA launched commercially products in the European market.
