EXPLORING THE IMPORTANCE OF GREEN CRITERIA IN SUPPLIER SELECTION: THE CASE OF THE TURKISH FOOD INDUSTRY

Supplier selection is a decision that takes multiple different criteria into account and it is vital to success of a supply chain. Today, social environmental awareness and the sensitivity of companies to the environment have increased significantly with the impact of media, non-governmental organizations and relevant legislation. This situation has enabled the green criterion to take its place in the supplier selection process as well as traditional criteria such as price, quality and reliability for companies in different countries and sectors. However, the extent to which the green criterion is given high weight in the supplier selection process is a matter of debate, especially for companies in developing countries such as Turkey. For this purpose, it is investigated according to which criteria the companies in the Turkish food sector choose their suppliers and how much weight they give to the green criterion in the selection process. Our research in this context was carried out fuzzy DEMATEL. The results obtained revealed that the Turkish food industry companies give the most importance to price, quality, relability, and business structure in supplier selection, while they attach a very few importance to the green criterion.
