Investigation of Cognitive Behavioral Interventions for Obsessive Compulsive Symptoms in Adolescents on the Basis of Research Trends and Phenomenological Research

This study sets out to determine the basic components of the phenomenon of cognitivebehavioral interventions for obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) symptoms in adolescents through research tendencies and the perspective of adolescents experiencing the phenomenon. Within the scope of this purpose, the study was carried out in two stages. Case study and phenomenology design were used, respectively. In the first stage, 6 master's theses and dissertations and 35 articles were used as data sources within the scope of acceptance criteria. In the second stage, data were collected through interviews with 10 adolescents who were determined by the criterion sampling method and who experienced the phenomenon. Data in both stages were analyzed with content analysis. As a result of the analyzes, the results obtained in the first stage of the study were grouped under three themes: “factors affecting the intervention”, “cognitive and behavioral processes” and “cognitive-behavioral intervention methods”. In the second stage of the study, it was seen that the phenomenon of cognitive behavioral interventions for OCD symptoms in adolescents grouped under four components: “Contribution to changes in OCD symptoms”, “Contribution to daily life changes”, “Competence in achieving personal goals” and “Contribution to new learning about OCD symptoms”. As a result of the study, the main components of the phenomenon of cognitive-behavioral interventions were defined within the scope of the case study, and it was determined that it is an effective intervention approach in reducing OCD symptoms and increasing life functioning in adolescents through interviews conducted within the scope of phenomenology.
