Araştırma İzmir ili Bornova ilçesi Doğanlar mahallesinde, 0-6 yaş çocuğu olan annelerin çocuk eğitiminde olumlu pekiştireçlere ödüllendirme ve olumsuz pekiştireçlere cezalandırma ilişkin davranışlarını belirlemek amacıyla yapılmıştır. During the socialization period of a child, the quality of the fa - mily relationships and the parents' attitudes toward child diciplining are crucial factors in his/her personel development. In this connec - tion, this study aimed to figure out the mothers' attitudes to child diciplining in a rural community. The interview data gathered from 147 women currently having at least one child between 0-6 years of age confirmed that in case the children having good behaviors 94.4 percent of the mothers rewarded them frequently, by kissing and strokirıg 51.0 % or offering gifts such as chocolate, clothes and toys % 47.9 . It was found that mothers attitude of rewarding their children was not effected by their ages and educational levels. Of the 87.7 percent of mothers were used to punish their childran in va - rious ways such as beating 60.5 % , reproaching 17.6 % , threatining 9.3 % , deprivating 7.8 % , warning and advising 4.6 % . According to the results of the study, mothers were found to be using rather traditional or unsuggested ways in child training and diciplining.
