Gingival hyperplasia is a common disorder seen in patients with epilepsy treated with phenytoin. It is rarely seen in patients taking sodium valproate therapy. Especially in mentally retardedpatients, poor oral hygiene causes to the accumulation of bacterial plaque and inflammationmight be occurs. Connective tissue increases due to inflammation and gingival hyperplasia isseen. We report a case of gingival hyperplasia due to valproic acid use to draw attention to rare adverseeffect of this drug
