Behçet hastalığında artmış plazma nitrit ve nitrat düzeyleri

Amaç: Behçet hastalığı, immun kompleksler ve vaskulit bulguları belirlenen, multisistemik kronik inflamatif bir hastalıktır. Son yapılan çalışmalar patogeııezde mikrobial antijenler, T hücre aktivasyonu, monosit ve makrofajlar ile artmış sitokiıı üretimininin olası rolünü işaret etmektedir. Bazı sitokinlerin nitrik oksid sentezine neden olabildiği ve nitrik oksidin inflamatif hastakklardaki önemli rolü bilinmektedir. Bu çalışmanın amacı nitrik oksidin (NO) Behçet hastalığı patogenezinde rolü olup olmadığını saptamaktı. Gereç ve yöntem: Nitrik oksid parçalanma ürünleri olan nitrit (NO 2) ve nitrat (NO 3) plazma düzeyleri 42 semptomlu Behçet hastası, 29 semptomsuz Behçet hastası ve 60 sağlıklı kontrolden alınan örneklerde araştırıldı. Increased plasma levels of nitrite and Behçet disease

Objective: Behçet's disease is a chronic, multisystemic inflammatory disorder in which immune complexes and vasculitis are found. Recent studies point out a probable role of microbial antigens, activation of T cells, monocytes and macophages and increased production of cytokines in the pathogenesis. It is known that some cytokines may cause nitric oxide synthesis and nitric oxide plays an important role in inflammatory diseases. The aim of this study was to determine whether or not nitric oxide (NO) is involved in the pathogenesis of Behçet's disease. Material and method: The plasma levels of nitrate (NO 3) and nitrite (NO 2), the breakdown products of nitric oxide, were investigated in the samples obtained from 42 Behçet's patients with symptoms, 29 Behçet's patients without symptoms and 60 healthy controls. Results: The plasma samples obtained from patients with symptoms showed statistically significant high levels of nitrate plus nitrite compared to patients without symptoms (p<0.001) and compared to the control group (p<0.001). Also, statistically significant high levels of nitrate plus nitrite were detected in Behçet's patients without symptoms compared to the control group (p<0.001). Conclusion: Because of microbial agents that can provoke the disease and cytokine production can cause the nitric oxide synthesis, the finding of elevated serum NO metabolites might be an indirect evidence for the role of NO in the pathogenesis of Behçet's disease.
